Anyone visiting Disneyland Paris in the last few months (including me!) will have noticed fencing around the castle bridge as it underwent almost six months of refurbishment.
Today, Disneyland Paris have announced that the bridge is set to reopen for guests, 35 years to the day that the castle itself was first unveiled to the public.
The bridge’s structure has been completely rebuilt, along with its arches, spandrels and corbels. But that’s not all, with the bridge also showcasing some new, decorative features. A brand-new compass rose now adorns the centre of the bridge, complete with central brass medallion – all linking back to Sleeping Beauty with motifs and references to the film.
Stefano Servi, Stage Architect at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, said:
‘This renovation was made possible thanks to the involvement of numerous trades and the wealth of their expertise. We called upon experts in the restoration of historic monuments to take care of Sleeping Beauty Castle, which is, in its own way, a landmark of Disneyland Paris. Our aim was to restore the bridge to its former glory, whilst preserving the details that give it its character, so that it may continue to form an integral part of the Castle for many years to come.’
